Fontainebleau Castle is the most beautiful castle in Paris. It is undoubtedly the most famous because many significant figures resided here. The castle has 1,500 rooms and takes up 130 hectares including the garden and three parks. 

It has a rich background, as historians claim the castle dates back to the 11th century. Hence, the style of the castle is classic Renaissance. 

Features include tall boxed ceilings, round towers, and dramatic art. The castle served as a home for the royal French bloodline starting with King Louis VII and including King Louis XIV and Napoleon I. It continues to be one of the most famous landmarks in Paris.

Château de Chantilly 

Like many castles in Paris, Chantilly castle has a long line of history. The oldest parts of the structure are built as early as the 13th century, making it one of the oldest Paris castles. This means that famous families like the Orgemonts and Montmorencys were one of the first to reside here.

You can discover more at the Condé Museum which is located on the castle grounds and houses hundreds of works. This includes pieces from Poussin and Ingres! Another unique feature of this castle is the Great Stables, which equestrians will especially enjoy.

Château de Thil 

Thil Castle is the oldest castle in Paris. It is a timeless Medieval structure founded by Jean of Phil I in Côte-d’Or. Historically, the castle has been on the radar since the 10th century, and even though it is now an ancient ruin, was previously known to be beautiful. Although many other Paris castles are more scenic, there is a unique quality to the grounds.

It is set up on a hill, isolated from the nearby attractions, and many find it to be magical. Often, there are fairs and other activities at the castle for young children and those who find it interesting.

Château de Rambouillet

Rambouillet Castle is one of the most famous castles in Paris, thanks to its important residents. Louis XVI and the Count of Toulouse are just some of the noteworthy royals who once lived within these walls.

Nowadays, you can explore the regal rooms decorated with a neoclassical style, and the medieval aspects of the structure. Additionally, there is a beautiful park with a river alongside it. Things to do here include the walking tour, the temporary exhibitions, or simply walking around freely.

Château de Vincennes

The Vincennes Castle is one of the most notable medieval castles in Paris. Its central tower is the tallest in the continent and gives the building its grandiose reputation.

The castle is said to be built during the 13th century and has been home to several royals, as well as serving as a hunting ground, prison, and place of worship.

It has suffered massively throughout but is currently restored and open for everyone to visit. 

Château de Dourdan

The Dourdan Castle is one of the most understated castles in Paris. Although it is not the most well-known, it is rich in history and was built as early as the 12th century. Gaillard Castle is an entrancing Paris castle known for its founder, Richard the Lionheart. Richard the Lionheart was a brave leader who led France through multiple battles, and therefore his castle remains one of the most significant in the capital. An example of this is the Siege of Château Gaillard by King Philip.

Château de Gisors

Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte

Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle is one of the modern castles in Paris. The castle was built in 1656, under the reign of King Louis XIV. As a result, it is better preserved and has an inviting exterior. If you are visiting with family, you should consider taking a trip to this castle.

The large gardens make it possible for games to be played every day, and there is also a restaurant. There are also special events such as candlelit evenings in the summer, which provides the perfect ambiance for couples.

Château de Breteuil

Incorporated into the grounds are several components: the palace itself, landscaped gardens, a maintained park, and many buildings. One of the most significant is the Hall of Mirrors, a gallery with 17 windows that houses romantic art and affluent decorations.
