Vathi Beach

The waters are shallow, making the beach a suitable playground for children as well. Furthermore, there are taverns nearby serving fresh seafood so that you do not have to worry about bringing snacks.
Chrissopigi Beach
Chrissopigi Beach is in South Apollonia. It is sandy whilst rocky, perfect for scuba diving or swimming in the shallow, warm waters. Poulati Beach
Poluati Beach, also known as Dialiskari Beach, is one of the beaches in Sifnos with the most cultural value. Unlike the majority of Sifnos beaches, it is a pebble beach scattered with rocks; therefore may not be the best option if you have small children.
Nevertheless, it has clear blue waters, steep hills, and a beautiful landscape. There is a trail to the Panagi Poulati, a historical white, and blue Greek Church, which you can visit if you are interested in exploring. Sifnos is, after all, also famous for its many religious festivals.
Vlicho Beach
Vlicho Beach is an accessible beach on the side surrounded by Tamarisk trees and sand. It is sheltered and one of the emptiest Sifnos beaches. This makes it a great spot for an undisturbed and tranquil vacation.

Marietta Castle
You can find this Gothic Revival-style castle in Ohio, located in the town of Marietta. Built in 1808, this structure housed several influential families and businesses over time.
As early as 1808, the castle was one of North America’s first pottery manufacturing sites. The castle in Ohio was home to five different families from the time it was built to 1974.
The castle was renovated and restored by a brother and sister team, the Bosleys, before becoming a historical landmark and museum in 1994.

P.P. Mast Castle
Located in Springfield and also known as Castle Knoll, it is one of the historical Ohio castles still standing today. The castle has been abandoned since being used most recently as a nursing home.
The history of the P. P. Mast castle began in 1881 when Phineas P. Mast decided to build a residence fashioned after the castles of Italy. Phineas Mast was a businessman and industrialist who wanted a home that acknowledged his status in society.
The residential castle in Ohio featured two stories for Mast’s living quarters and a third with a grand ballroom. Imported stained glass from France and coal-burning fireplaces adorned the first two floors.
The extensions that the nursing home added to the original Ohio castle’s structure were removed in 2015. Today, the abandoned castle in Ohio is on the list of 100 most representative works of architecture.
Squire’s Castle
This castle in Ohio is nestled away in the North Chagrin Reservation in Willoughby Hills. Unlike the other castles of Ohio on this list, Squire’s castle is a shell of a building, and construction was never completed.
Around 1890, Feargus B. Squire purchased forest land intending to build an English country estate. The castle-like structure was simple, with some decorative embellishments and featured outer walls made of Euclid bluestone.
Squire’s plan to build multiple residences on the estate was ruined when he encountered issues with materials and permits. Sadly the house was never fully finished but was used occasionally as a simple summer home by the family.
Eventually, in 1922 Squire sold the castle in Ohio to developers and relocated. Unfortunately, vandals stripped the decorative features of the Ohio castle’s structure over the years.
You can visit this castle in Ohio to admire its Romanesque Revival-style configuration. There is not much left to see inside the castle, but it’s charming exterior will please any fan of architecture.

Glamorgan Castle
Built in the early 1900s in Alliance, this castle in Ohio was the residence of Colonel William Henry Morgan and his family for 30 years. During the Great Depression in 1938, the castle was sold to the Elks of America and used as their lodge until 1964.
Over the years, the castle’s purpose changed, becoming the headquarters for an international machine company. Eventually, the Alliance school district acquired the castle to use it as space for administrative offices.
The walls of the castle feature thick marble transported from Vermont, resembling fortress-like security similar to medieval castles. Despite this, the castle was built with modern amenities such as a bowling alley and indoor swimming pool.
Today a high school sits behind the castle in Ohio, and the original structure continues to be used as the central administrative office for the school district. You can visit this impressive Ohio castle’s history by taking a tour of the grounds.
Franklin Castle
Also known as Tiedemann house, this Victorian-style castle house is located in Cleveland. Built in 1883 for Hannes Tiedmann, a prosperous German Immigrant, this Ohio castle’s architecture is quite impressive.
The Tiedemann’s suffered the loss of four young children while occupying the castle. These tragedies led Hannes to continue to add to the home in hopes of cheering up his distraught wife, Louise.

These two Gothic-style castles in Ohio built by brothers Donn and Abram Piatt are within a mile of one another. Made in the 1860s and 1870s in West Liberty, Piatt castles are on the National Register of Historic Places.
The two Ohio castles are known as Mac-A-Cheek and Mac-O-Chee, named for the Shawnee Indians who lived in the nearby village of Mackachak. Until 2019, both residences were owned by the Piatt family and operated as historical museums.

A retired Army Veteran was inspired to build Landoll’s Mohican castle after falling in love with European castles during a two-year tour in the army. Jim Landoll started construction on this castle in Ohio in 1997 after selling his successful publishing company.
Originally intended to be a barn that looked like a castle, Landoll’s wife convinced him to turn it into a hotel. Builders used wood and stone found on the surrounding property to build the structure.

Plathenia Beach is structured like every one of the typical beaches in Milos. It is found facing West of Milos, 2km away from Plaka, in a small cove. It is in a great and accessible location, whereby the beach is most often accessed by car through Firopotamos bay.
However, if you are coming from a different direction, or would rather opt for a more adventurous style of transportation, you can always privately hire an ocean taxi.
Plathenia Beach is small and natural, untouched by tourists, so you must bring your own beach blankets and sun loungers. You may also want to bring your own snacks, and drinks are a must in the scorching Greek weather.
That said, if you can walk 1km or so, you can choose from a variety of restaurants such as Avli Milos, serving Mediterranean cuisine, or Kokkino Podliato, a dainty café.
Vani Beach
Vani Beach is also another Milos beach in the Western part of the island. Whilst it is also small, like Plathenia beach, it holds more historical value and will be especially fascinating to visit if you are looking for a beach that is both educational and interesting to look at.
Most famously, Vani beach has ancient Manganese mines dating all the way back to the late 1800s, that had to be abandoned due to the start of the World War. Unfortunately, these mines are not visible from the shore.
As Vani beach is quite rocky and small, making it hard to access, it may not be ideal for relaxing in the sun. However, it is a stop on many boat tours such as those from Adamas, where you can see the colored rock formations. These colors include purple and yellow, which has led to locals stating that the rocks resemble bacon!
If you are interested in old ruins and are staying in Plaka for a few days, you may have enough time to also visit the ancient Plaka Castle or the two main Churches in Plaka.

Kolimpisionas Beach
Kolimpisionas Beach is located in Komia, just under 1.5km from the center. It is one of the best beaches in Milos for family as there are no touristic amenities, therefore free to visit. You can simply bring your beach towels and snacks, find a spot to lay on, and stay all day. Furthermore, there is free parking.
The beach is sandy, sprinkled with some medium-sized, beautiful pebbles that you can take home as a souvenir, and the waters are shallow enough to swim in at the beginning of the shore. Whilst it is relatively deserted, it is just close enough to Komia town where there are various restaurants and bars, ideal for couples.
Paralia Thiafes Beach
Paralia Thiafes Beach is found slightly farther away from the Komia center, located amongst the mountains and bays in the area. The beach is perfect if you are looking for adventure as it is natural, like many beaches in Milos, as reflected by its unspoiled landscapes. It is mainly a sandy beach, where you can bring your own sun lounger and comfortably tan all day, or children can swim in the clear water safely.
It is important to note that whilst entrance is free, you may wish to take a parasol with you, especially if you are visiting during the summer when the temperatures becoming increasingly hotter.
Paralia Kastanas Beach
Paralia Kastanas Beach is a much bigger and well-known Milos beach, loved by couples for the beautiful scenery and romantic atmosphere. It is popular due to its white sand and pebbles, transparent water, a multitude of beach sports, and huge space.

There are small, vibrantly colored fish that you can see whilst snorkeling, as well as the opportunity to kayak across the waters and explore all of the bays. It may not be one of the best beaches on Lake Michigan, but it has stunning views from the top of the dunes, and its secrecy makes it ideal for some. But this secrecy is probably part of the reason it isn’t so easy to find.
Also, you will need to go early during weekends since there are few parking spots around Laketown Beach. Make sure you obey the “no parking” rules.
There are several cabins, B&B apartments, and lodges near Laketown Beach. But the most outstanding hotel is Hampton Inn Holland, about 13 miles away. Your choice will depend on how far away from Laketown Beach you’re willing to stay.
Covert Township Park
This beach is as secluded as they come. I’m sure the name gave it away. Some people still find it hard to locate Covert Township park even with sufficient directions. It is located along 32nd Avenue and is only 10 minutes away from South Haven by car.
Covert Township Park has a peaceful and quiet beachfront. Visitors can rent a paddleboard or a kayak for daily use.
If you don’t plan to walk to the beach, make sure you go early. It can be hard to find a parking spot if you don’t reside in Covert Township. Residents get free access to the beach, while others must pay an $8 fee.
