This classic sandwich consists of rye bread stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Russian (or Thousand Island) dressing. The combination creates a flavor explosion in your mouth, with the perfect balance of salty, tangy, and creamy.

There are a few different stories about the origin of this sandwich. The Nebraska version goes back to 1925, where it was spontaneously created by a local grocer Reuben Kulakofsky for some poker players at Omaha’s Blackstone Hotel.

The hotel owner loved it and placed it on the menu where the sandwich has just grown in popularity since.

Today, you can find it on the menu at just about any deli or diner in the state. Some places even put their own spin on it, like using pastrami instead of corned beef, or adding some spicy mustard for an extra kick.

Dorothy Lynch first served the original recipe back during the late 1940s, in her own restaurant in St Paul. It was a hit, as some people even brought their own bottles just to get that delicious sauce.

Seeing the popularity, Dorothy began making the dressing in larger batches and selling it. Before she knew it, she had a full-blown business on her hands.
