10 Best Beaches In Hydra, Greece To Visit

Hydra is a small Saronic Island in Greece, located in the Aegean Sea. It is known for being unspoiled and natural, home to numerous harbors and bays; not forgetting the beautiful pebble beaches in Hydra. There are also monasteries and cathedrals, museums, and some beaches even overlook Eros Mountain. Hydra also has a port, so you can travel from Athens, and explore more of Greece in style by ferry.

Most Popular Beach In Hydra

Mandraki Beach

Mandraki Beach is the most popular beach in Hydra because it is unique and luxurious. It is found on the north coast of Hydra, 2km from Hydra Town. Therefore there are many amenities and activities nearby

Mandraki Beach is also the only beach in Hydra that is exclusively sandy, perfect for children to play in. The smooth sand means you can also lay down your own spot here with towels/mat, although there are beach chairs and rentals available.

Furthermore, there are many water sports available. If you are hungry, you can find scrumptious taverns such as Mandraki Beach Restaurant which serves both Greek and Japanese food; it is well-known for its fresh sushi.

Mandraki Beach Resort is a luxe, large beachfront Hotel with a variety of different-sized suites, and mountain or sea views. This is charming and romantic especially recommended to couples.

Alternatively, Hotel Sophia is also close by, less than 2km away, yet more affordable and suitable for families.

Beaches In Hydra On The North Coast

Kamini Beach

Kamini Beach is a modest but charming beach, also known as Mikro Kamini. It is one of the smallest beaches in Hydra. Since it is near Hydra Town it is easily accessible on foot, and also has many taverns nearby serving fresh seafood.

The beach is also less than a kilometer away from a history museum if you are interested in the rich cultural side of Hydra. The beach itself is a pebble beach and is organized with available sunbeds and parasols to rent.

Avlaki Beach

Avlaki Beach is one of the closest beaches in Hydra to the town, in addition to Spilia Beach. This Hydra beach is rocky and thus great for diving. The water is also remarkably clear making it ideal for swimming and exploring the marine life of Hydra.

Due to its small size, the beach can get crowded. However, there are no sunbeds or parasols for rent on the beach, meaning there is more space. If you are a solo traveler, this is the perfect beach for you.

Vlichos Beach

Vlichos Beach is an organized beach with pebbles and clear waters that are shallow. It is ideal for children to play on and swim safely. The beach is close to Hydra Town and can be easily accessed by walking. However, you can also rent a water taxi or drive to get there.

Vlichos Beach has one of the best views of all the beaches in Hydra because of its proximity to Mount Eros. The beach offers picturesque views all around. You can sit at one of the many taverns for a meal, such as the Enalion restaurant, and enjoy excellent quality food with great service and an unbeatable view.

Hydronetta Beach

Hydronetta Beach is one of the best beaches in Hydra for teenagers, young adults, and couples due to its lively atmosphere and busy nature. It is a pebble beach with a beach bar where you can order a few cocktails and enjoy the view in a romantic setting.

Hydronetta Beach is especially stunning at sunset when the sky is exotic shades of purple and orange. That said, it just as enjoyable during the day when you can swim in the warm waters and take in the unique rocky coastline.

The Mistral Hotel is close to Hydra port and Avlaki Beach, and offers double or triple rooms. There are also studios available.

The Hydra Hotel is also directly in the center, offering rooms overlooking the town and or sea. It has modern decoration and furnishings, with family suites available.

The Sidra Hotel is a more affordable option and is a more traditional accommodation.

Lastly, if you are looking for apartments, Nesea Boutique Apartments has many available bedrooms and living rooms, close to the port and beaches.

Beaches In Hydra On The South Coast

Molos Beach

Molos Beach is a small pebble beach and is one of the more secluded beaches in Hydra as it is further away from Hydra Town. If you are searching for a more tranquil and peaceful beach, Molos Beach is the best choice. It is small and less frequently visited.

Located in a rocky cove in the northwest, this destination is best reached by water taxi. However, if you are more adventurous you could walk through the pine forest or take a long walk from the city center.

Agios Nikolaos Beach

Agios Nikolaos Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Hydra. It is large, and its character and ambiance make for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you are traveling in a large group, such as a family, it is the ideal beach to visit.

Most people get to this pebble beach by water taxi. Once you arrive there are sunbeds and parasols to rent for the entire day. If you do stay for a long time, there is a beach restaurant serving a wide array of dishes and playing upbeat music. In addition, there is a Church nearby which you can explore.

Bisti Beach

Bisti Beach is a pebble beach in a cove located northwest of Hydra and is just over a kilometer away from Agios Nikolaos Beach. It is one of the most relaxing beaches in Hydra as it is organized and quiet.

The beach is surrounded by pine trees and rocks, perfect for a quiet day out in a comforting setting. Since it is further away from the lively town, there are fewer taverns around. Café Grande is open all day and serves fresh food and refreshing drinks.  

Limnioniza Beach

Limnioniza Beach is a pebble beach 5km away from Hydra Town. It is found on the southeast coastline and is one of the more remote Hydra beaches.

This nature paradise is less busy and loud than the beaches further up north. The waters are calm and shallow hence child-friendly. It is a great beach to visit with family, rent a sunbed and relax. There is not much to do here except lounge and swim, so if you are excited about a chilled vacation, this is the best beach to visit.

Klimaki Beach

Klimaki Beach is large, secluded, and serene. Found on the south coast of Hydra, it is one of the most peaceful and underrated beaches in Hydra. The beach is spacious and unorganized, perfect for large groups if you are worried about finding enough space.

The beach has a spectacular view of Eros Mountain and other landscapes. This gives it an unspoiled and natural vibe; and the waters are clear and warm. Swimming here is like paradise!

Hotel Miranda, close to Molos Beach, offers a range of rooms with different views and accommodates a variety of guests.

The Orloff Boutique Hotel is also a great quality option, close to Bisti Beach, and is a unique hotel styled like an 18th-century mansion. A more expensive option is Hotel Leta Hydro, a large furnished hotel with elegant rooms and several extras.

If you are looking for a more quaint and quiet accommodation, Manolia is a guest house also close by with many large rooms in an accessible location.

Travel Insurance

Traveling from Athens To Hydra

After exploring some of the best things to do in Athens, dedicate a few days of your holiday to visiting Hydra and its beaches. The ferry from Athens to Hydra is around merely 90 minutes. You can travel from Athens to Hydra and return all in one day, or book accommodation and stay for longer.

In Athens, Piraeus is the most popular port to travel from. You can arrive at Hydra in two hours for around 40 euros. You can then choose which date or time to return, making an all-around trip for one person approximately 80 euros. The Athens to Hydra trip is an affordable and unmissable experience.

An advantage of traveling from Athens to Hydra is that many beaches are within walking distance from Hydra port; so you do not need to worry about spending all day traveling. On the other hand, if you are thinking of traveling from Hydra to Athens, the port is close to the majority of beaches and so the ferry is easily accessible.
